Understanding Tuberculosis
A half-day workshop aimed at key front-line workers to better understand TB and its impact on individuals and urban communities.
Paul (Mayho) Thorn, author of The Tuberculosis Survival Handbook is offering a half-day workshop to raise awareness of TB among key front-line workers, and anyone else who comes into contact with the public and clients who may be at a higher risk of developing active TB disease. (For example people with alcohol and drug problems, those who live in poverty and poor or overcrowded living conditions, the homeless, prisoners, or are affected by other health conditions such as HIV.)
DO YOU WANT A WORKSHOP TO HAPPEN IN YOUR AREA? PLEASE CONTACT 01273 555982, OR EMAIL info@understandingtb.org FOR DETAILS.
The Understanding Tuberculosis workshop will cover:
- What is tuberculosis?
- What are the symptoms?
- How is tuberculosis diagnosed?
- How is tuberculosis treated?
- The link between HIV and tuberculosis.
- What is multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and what threat does it present to society?
- A realistic presentation of the risk of occupationally acquired tuberculosis.
The outcome of attending the workshop will be a better understanding of tuberculosis, its prevention and treatment. It will provide an insight into the impact of the disease on individuals and society today, and an informed understanding of the risks of working with people who may be at a higher risk of developing active TB disease.
